Total Body Skin Exam

Prescott ‑ Prescott Valley ‑ Cottonwood ‑ Scottsdale

If you have had a melanoma or have a history of basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, you are probably a candidate for a total body skin examination every 6 months or yearly. Scotch, Irish, English heredity combined with sun exposure is the perfect recipe for skin cancer. The skin never forgets exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun (UVB) and as age increases so will the occurrence of skin cancer.
As we learn to use sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure as an adult, the skin still carries the sun exposure received in younger years. Since there are areas difficult to self-examine such as the back, or scalp it can be very helpful to have an experienced person examine your entire body to check for any lesions that are suspicious and might require biopsy.

Once you have had a skin cancer, you will almost always develop another skin cancer or even multiple lesions at some point in the future. The total body skin check is one way to catch suspicious lesions at an early stage making treatment a much simpler process.
