Plastic Surgeon Examines Beautiful Woman's Face

Mohs Surgery

Prescott ‑ Prescott Valley ‑ Cottonwood ‑ Scottsdale

Mohs is a technique of removing skin cancer and microscopically checking the edges of the tissue to ensure complete removal. It is performed using local anesthetic. The specimen is frozen so that it can be processed in the Cryostat to make slides for the microscope. The surgeon removing the lesion marks the specimen at the time of removal and once the slides have been prepared checks the peripheral and deep margins under the microscope.
Mohs helps conserve tissue and defects produced by tumor removal are only as large as they need to be for complete tumor removal. This is an advantage is areas with limited tissue such as the ears, nose, eyelids, lips, and most of the head and neck. Repair of the defect may be done on the same day and the Mohs or may be delayed a few days when indicated. The plastic surgeon is available to help with optimal repair techniques.
